Shooting with a Barcelona Legend: Xavi for Adidas

Client: Adidas
Location: Barcelona
Spain Production: Camera Crew Spain

In this Case History

When Adidas and their German creative agency needed to shoot branded content with Xavi Hernández in Barcelona, they weren’t looking for just another Spanish production company to hire gear from. They needed a local team with real experience in sports video production, professionals who knew how to work with high-profile athletes, spoke their language, understood how international productions work, and could handle the logistics of shooting with one of FC Barcelona’s biggest legends without turning it into a circus.

Building the Production Team

The German agency was bringing their own director, photographer, and assistant: the creative core of the project. Our job was to build everything around them. We put together a producer to run the local logistics, gaffers who knew how to work fast with international crews, a soundman, and style and makeup. We also provided two drivers with vans because when you’re moving crew, equipment, and talent around Barcelona, you need people who actually know the city and can think on their feet.

The key was making sure our Barcelona production crew and the German team worked as one unit, not two separate groups trying to coordinate. Everyone spoke English, everyone understood the workflow, and nobody had to repeat themselves or wonder if something got lost in translation.

The Shoot

For this project, we needed a plató: a proper sound stage where we could control everything. Location scouting meant finding the right studio space in Barcelona that could accommodate the full crew, handle the lighting setup for a photoshoot environment, and provide the privacy and professional setting that shooting with Xavi required. We sourced all the props needed to recreate the specific look the creative team wanted, and made sure everything was in place before the German team and Xavi arrived.

What We Delivered on Production:

  • Full lighting package and grip equipment for studio photography setup
  • Professional audio equipment and wireless mics
  • Producer managing all on-ground logistics and scheduling
  • Gaffers and lighting crew who understood international workflow
  • Sound recordist
  • Style and makeup artist
  • 2 drivers with vans for crew transport and equipment runs
  • Props and set dressing to build the photoshoot environment
  • Complete coordination between Spanish and German crew members

When you’re working with talent at Xavi’s level, there’s no room for “we’ll figure it out” or “give us a minute.” Everything has to work, and everyone, from the local makeup artist to the international photographer, needs what they need when they need it.

Why It Worked

This wasn’t about us taking over the production. The German agency had their vision and their director. They just needed local partners who could execute at their level without constant hand-holding. Our producer kept everything moving, our crew integrated seamlessly with theirs, and all the logistics that can derail a shoot in a foreign city—transportation, equipment, locations, local coordination—just happened in the background.

That’s what we do. International productions bring their creative teams to Spain, and we become their team on the ground. Not vendors they have to manage, but people they can actually work with and rely on.
